About Us

“Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance. Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.”                                                          Titus 2:2-5 (NASB)

When I last updated….We lived on a farm in south-central Virginia with two of our daughters who were still at home. We had been a foster/adoptive family to almost 50 children since 1986; our ministry since 1994 was largely to pregnant teens/babies, as we home educated the girls and trained them in “mommy” skills (and went through labor with them!), or took in newborns awaiting adoption. Our desire has been to continue to share the love of Jesus Christ in adoption/foster care, as the Lord provides the means and the housing. Meanwhile, Jim and I appreciate the opportunity to “love on” our many grandbabies and support our grown daughters in their careers as wives and mothers. Several of our girls have been called to missions work, especially in the orphanages of Romania and India.

UPDATE: Well, we moved from the farm to Winchester, Virginia, so Jim could spearhead efforts to pass the Parental Rights amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He is now retired and writing, and I’m still involved in a local support group, but I’m a “graduated” mom now: our youngest daughter is now in her 30s, married, and homeschooling her own kiddos. At this writing we have 23 grandchildren and our fourtheenth great-grandchild!

I recently left Home School Legal Defense Association after fifteen years, where I’d served as the Toddlers to Tweens consultant and as director of HSLDA Group Services for support groups/organizations, but I haven’t left the homeschool community! I am so blessed to be able to meet so many of you across the country as the Lord opens doors for me to share at your state conventions.

Jim enjoys utilizing his business skills/experience, entrepreneurial enthusiasm, and his One Page Business Plan certification to help companies and nonprofit organizations– large and small – discover ways to streamline their operations, refine business and marketing plans, and most effectively meet the needs of customers and employees through consulting services at The Bentley Group. He also recently published a book about (our) marriage: Finding Grace(land) … and Other Everyday Marriage Lessons

We are also very involved in our local homeschool support group and in homeschool organizations, and I love to talk to local groups about home education and abundant family living, when I’m not teaching online classes or baking bread, brownies, or English muffins.
