In an ideal world, I’d have a big drawer where I could lay my silicone baking mats — Silpat, for example — out flat (like my friend Laura does — she has an AMAZING kitchen!). I am happy with my kitchen and the drawers aren’t going to get any bigger, so I just needed a place I could store the baking mats rolled up because (a) they would stick to each other and /or (b) they would keep unrolling all over the other bakeware so I couldn’t get stuff out of the cupboard. Before….
They were rolled up in the center area of my under-sink baking sheets area. You can probably barely see them — so imagine trying to grab them out of there! This was as tidy as they’d get, and that lasted about a day, until I got under there for a mat or another pan. They got stuck in there, or they unrolled themselves all over the muffin tins and cooling racks and when I tried to pull them out, several got stuck on each other (yay, silicone) and it was a bit of an ordeal to grab what I needed.
After….. My first step was to store them in a non-stick way, so I decided to roll them up two-by-two in cotton tea towels.
But those needed a place to stand up.
So I found this white metal file folder stand in the as-is section at Ikea for $1.95. (Ikea for the win. Again.) This gave me a place to corral the rolls so I could easily grab what I needed but they didn’t slide in amongst all the other bakeware. If you really have the time and energy, you could wrap them with bands so the tea towels stayed furled up better, but I’m happy enough with this, and it gives me one less thing to do when I take them out for use! Bonus: It fit into the “dead space” between my bakeware racks and behind the cabinet door-bar (I’m pretty sure that’s the official construction title)…
The finished cabinet (this is real life in my house)….

I store mine on the baking tray that they fit. They stick to the pan and are ready to go when I pull it out of the cabinet.
Great idea!
Very comprehensive review. Thanks for the excellent, down to earth tips.
Thanks for reading! 🙂
Very Comprehensive review
Great ideas! Since I have multiples, the tea towels keep them “un-stuck” but these are some other great ideas, as well.
